Kate Reynolds
Kate was born in Ipswich in 1961, Kate studied on a foundation course in Art and Design at Ipswich Art School (1978–1980) and at Brighton Polytechnic (1980–1983) receiving a BA (hons) degree in 3D design, wood, metal, plastics, ceramics and an MA in 3D design, ceramics, from Cardiff Institute (1983–1984). Kate has held teaching positions at St Josephs College. She was artist in residence at The Ipswich School, and taught drawing and 3D at Suffolk College from 1988 until 2011. Her work is in creating ceramic pieces, which are simple in outline and capture and evoke an essence of a face or head. At times the images are humorous and portray a character or paired down human image with her other work being abstract and playful using cropped shapes or cut out additions. The nature of the glazing and finishing, using the raku firing process, results in often random, spontaneous and surprising effects. A member of the Ipswich Art Society, Suffolk Group and the Suffolk Craft Society her work can also be seen at North House Gallery; Bircham Gallery; Craft co, Southwold; Catherine Miller, Chelsea and Coppers Gallery, Mistley; The Maltings Gallery, Snape.
Kate also makes pieces for outside settings and has produced large scale commissions and sculptures for private and public sites.
