Nicola completed a degree in Graphic Design specialising in illustration and nearly became an accountant after graduating! A holiday to Cornwall convinced her to go back to illustration and so she started creating handmade cards and designing cards for other companies too. Having worked in design studios for 7 years Nicola started the MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. Her final artwork won the publisher Egmont’s Best New Talent Award.

Since graduating in 2009, Nicola has written and illustrated several picture books, board books and pop-up books too. Her second book ‘Fluff and Billy’ was picked by Julia Donaldson (Children’s Laureate and author of The Gruffalo) as one of her books of 2011 in The Guardian, and ‘I Got a Crocodile’ was read as a CBeebies Bedtime Story by the actor Damian Lewis. In 2020, a reading of her book ‘The Little Rabbit’ was featured as part of the White House Easter celebrations.
